1000 Steps

>> Thursday, July 09, 2009

We didn't actually do this hike until the very end of our stay in Hawaii. Koko Crater boasts of 1000 steps up to a beautiful view. We wondered just how hard it could be - it's just like a never-ending staircase, right? Until we stepped foot on it and realized it was an old railway (probably to transport ammunition to the top which was once a bunker)... Until we almost lost my uncle falling through the bridge on the way up... Until we almost lost my cousin off the side of the bridge on the way down... But thankfully, we made it safely all the way down and only slightly scathed.

The view was worth it!

By the way, we counted the steps... or, I should say, my mom counted (by picking up a stone for every 50) and 1000 is mostly accurate - we counted 1015 plus or minus a few!
